Alice in Wonderland – Character Series
Software Used:
- Sculpted and polypainted in ZBrush
- Retopologised, rigged, posed and rendered in Maya
Inspired by the art of John Tenniel, I decided to create a character series based on his illustrations from the novel Alice′s Adventures in Wonderland, published in 1865.
I wanted to do something I hadn't seen before; essentially taking a very traditional, flat illustration style and adapting it to 3D.

Software used:
- Modeled, rigged and animated in Maya
- Textured in 3d Coat and touched up in Photoshop

An unused character from a previous project, which was mostly complete, but not textured. At the time I decided that I would finish it up at a later stage.
It was great to be able to jump straight into texturing and focus only on that. As it is a fairly simple model, I wanted to really push the form and detail through hand painting.

I came across an art project online exploring metal health through character design. I thought the variety and style of the characters were great and would make for some good sculpting practice.
I ended up spending quite some time on the sculpt itself, but wanted to keep the texture style fairly simple and 'flat' looking.
